While owning Jika, both Dale and Ian started to discuss doing the South Atlantic race and beyond. It was decided that the next boat must be easy to sail and have good heavy weather capabilities. Jika being one of the most wonderful boats to have but it was a thoroughbred racer which required lots of crew to sail to potential. The sentiment was, we liked to sail shorthanded or with people we enjoy. We finally decided that the Farr 38 would be the correct boat in the Cape based on the local boats available. The farr 38 is an old desing but there are a few in the Cape and they have an excellent reputation. We found one, but we dicided that based on the work required it would be too expensive.... How wrong we were. That boat was sold and back to our search we went. We eventually found another Farr 38 which had been standing neglected for a few years. Because there were no other Farr 38's on the market we eventually purchased this one at basically the same price as the other one. This one needed a major refit, whiole the other one just needed personal customising.
(Pic attached is a pic of the boat coming out of the water for a refit. Work had already begun on the boat)
